A. Preventive Medicine

1. Environmental Sanitation: There is an environmental cleaning and disinfection in every factory and cell each workday . We regularly spray disinfectant to eliminate contagious mosquitoes as a medium of contagious diseases surrounding organization. By law the people who works in the kitchen needs to pass a serious of medical examinations. In order to prevent food safety and hygiene, we follow rules. We also have strict control of the temperature of the freezer and cold room to ensure the food is so freshness that our inmates can get nice food safety.
2. Health Education: We cooperate with Department of Health , Kaohsiung City Government and Zuoying Branch of Kaohsiung Armed Force General Hospital to offer some topic health education about infection prevention. The topic contains promote ‘Course on CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)’ ‘Education and Films of AIDS Prevention,’ ‘Sex Diseases, AIDS, Chronicle Diseases and other Health Education,’ ‘Prevention of Pulmonary Tuberculosis,’ and other forms of sanitation education.
3. Vaccine injection: According to CDC public health policy ,we offer Seasonal influenza vaccine injection annually.
4. Inspections for Sexual Transfer Diseases, AIDS, Pulmonary Tuberculosis: In order to offer safety environment we have our new inmates take a STD examination and chest X – ray to detect Pulmonary Tuberculosis. If there is any suspected case, we follow doctor’s suggestion to offer the best medical treatment. We carry out a annual STD examination and chest X – ray to detect Pulmonary Tuberculosis for all inmates. If there is any abnormal situation we will arrange OPD service and follow doctor’s suggestion to offer medical treatment.

B. Medical Treatment in the Prison

1. Health examinations: New inmates should take a health examination from the medical staff to record their health conditions. There are three times a week .The doctor to handle relevant matters in the prison. If new inmate has R/O infectious disease , we will follow the doctor’s record to make isolate or other treatment.
2. Disease diagnosis and treatment:According to National Health Insurance Act article 10-- Those who are serving sentences in correctional institutions or receiving punishments from police and military court-martial as the insured . So ,we offer health insurance medical service in jail and in cooperation with Zuoying Branch of Kaohsiung Armed Forces General Hospital . We have very different department doctor to offer medical service .They are physicians, surgeons, home practice doctors, psychiatrists, infectious doctor and dentists. If inmate suffered from disease that need further evaluation and treatment , we will send inmate to hospital for further medical service that is including examination and hospitalization .
